Darker side of chocolate.

Image result for darker side of chocolateOur lesson about Child Labour- Child trafficking(Summary).
Today we watched a video about child trafficking in Ghana. We watched and did a little lesson about child trafficking and how people in Canada will never understand the pain children in Ghana go through to make the chocolate. This child labouring in Ghana is a serious matter. Farmers slowly began to realise the benefits of fair trade and if they joined the union they were guaranteed a fair price for their beans. The only rules of this fair trade was child labour was not allowed and all the money raised from fair trade chocolates were put back into the community. Before fair trade was introduced to Ghana there was no water or anything no lakes streaming through the town till fair trade was introduced a water pump was put in the community.

What can you do to help these communities?I think that if people go shopping and see fair trade products i think they should think about the children going through child labour in other countries and buy fair trade products instead.I also think that people can raise awareness for this by posting about this on social media, advertising, putting out posters and passing on the message through to the rest of their friends and family.

My opinion:From me i think i prefer to buy fair trade chocolates now,i never knew what fair trade was but seeing what children in Ghana go through all the hard work to make those cocoa beans to make chocolate just to make other children in other countries happy.I think that more people should buy fair trade items so that all the money can be given back to people that need it.I also think that fair trade is really helping these kids to get off the cocoa bean farms and get into schools and get the education the have the right to have!
